Thermage: Non-Invasive Skin Tightening

Thermage is a non-surgical procedure that Dr. Kaczynski at Advanced Concepts in Plastic Surgery offers in Sacramento that is designed to restore your skin to a more youthful condition without plastic surgery. It uses the advanced technique of radio frequency monopolar energy to heat and activate the collagen in your skin, resulting in a tighter, fresher, rejuvenated look.  This treatment can be used to tighten the skin on the face as well as areas on the body such as the tummy and thighs for people who are not yet at the stage to require plastic surgery such as a facelift or tummy tuck.

Restoring Your Youthful Appearance:

Thermage strengthens the collagen in the skin without surgery and revitalizes it’s appearance by:

  • Firming and tightening the skin
  • Lifting of the eyebrows
  • Tightening loose skin around the chin, jaw and neck
  • Diminishing the appearance of scarring caused by acne
  • Softening deep lines such as forehead creases and laugh lines

If you are considering Thermage to restore a youthful appearance, here are some things to consider:

Thermage is not a Facelift or a tummy tuck:

While Thermage has proven to be an effective way of enhancing one’s appearance, individuals considering the procedure should keep in mind that it is not a plastic surgery surgical procedure and should not be considered a comparable alternative to a facelift or tummy tuck. While some individuals display dramatic results following treatment, others may only display modest results, especially in cases where a facelift or tummy tuck is recommended by Dr. K. Because it is not a surgical procedure, the results are simply not as prominent as those of a facelift or tummy tuck.

Who Will Benefit From Thermage?

This treatment is typically used on individuals experiencing slight sagginess of the skin and early signs of aging or moderately loose skin around the tummy, thighs and upper arms but not quite requiring plastic surgery.

Recovery:

Individuals who undergo a treatment typically experience mild to moderate redness and swelling for the first week following the procedure. Although it is rare, some patients may experience mild swelling for a longer period of time.

Risks & Complications:

It is important to keep in mind that, as with any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks associated with Thermage treatments. However, the likeliness of experiencing a complication with this procedure is heavily reduced in patients who follow pre and post-procedure instructions provided by their plastic surgeon.

  • Burns: Some patients experience burns, blistering and permanent scarring following a Thermage procedure.
  • Skin discoloration: While it is possible to experience slight discoloration following a skin procedure, this is not a typical side effect associated of this type of procedure.
  • Pain and Discomfort: Although pain is not typically associated with Thermage procedures, especially the 3rd Generation Thermage used at Advanced Concepts in Plastic Surgery in Sacramento, some patients have complained of prolonged discomfort, soreness and burning of the skin for days, weeks and even months following the procedure.
